Our Producers

Frank Ragano & Mariannah Amster founded the video art exhibition company Parallel Studios in 2002. Artists themselves, they sought to foster the work of regional and international media artists by producing world class exhibits that would bring the emerging video art and new media genre to the general public.

producerscurrents2010comhtmlm3dfd86d0aParallel Studios first production, currents 2002, produced and curated by Frank and Mariannah, was held at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe, NM. The exhibition included Susanna Carlisle, David Stout and video pioneers Steina and Woody Vasulka, along with other national and local media artists.

Since then, Mariannah and Frank have: produced currents 2003 showcased at Art Santa Fe, a biennial international art fair at the Sweeney Convention Center: presented the work of Santa Fe video artists at the Ybor City Festival of the Moving Image, Tampa, Florida (March 2004); produced currents 2008 video exhibition at Salon Mar Graff and currents 2009 at Zane Bennett Contemporary Arts, both in Santa Fe. This year it was currents 2010 and next year currents 2011.

Paul Marcus comes to Parallel Studios with extensive production experience in the film, television, commercial advertising and documentary fields. He has worked and collaborated on projects with industry icons John Sayles, Steven Soderburgh, Wim Wenders, Alex Gibney and Terrence Malick – among many others.

Recently Paul has begun producing and directing his own short films. His Mercurial Son (2005), the often harrowing portrait of Chicago blues legend Lurrie Bell, has been shown and well reviewed all over the world. Paul’s recent Underway (2008), a more narrative effort, has been well received at film festivals around the country and toured New Mexico as an audience favorite for the state’s Filmmaker Showcase.

As a lover and supporter of the arts he brings a magical quotient of industry savvy, large production experience and a discerning eye to the Parallel Studios' team.
