Parallel Studios, its fiscal agent El Museo Cultural, and its sponsors*, Zane Bennett Contemporary Art and SITE Santa Fe, presented an exhibition of experimental video. currents 2010 opened June 17 2010, coinciding with SITE Santa Fe's Eighth International Biennial Exhibition. While SITE Santa Fe's exhibit focused on video art and its integration of other media, the currents 2010 exhibition was designed to broaden the conversation about the current trends in experimental video. (Site's letter of support)
Parallel Studios has produced video exhibitions in Santa Fe since 2002. Our goal has always been to present innovative, state-of-the-art work in an environment welcoming to the general public. currents 2010 was presented at El Museo Cultural, located across the street from SITE Santa Fe, and was free to the public.
We have always had a strong commitment to Santa Fe and were gratified at the opportunity for community involvement provided by currents 2010.
Looking to the future, Parallel Studios saw currents 2010 as a pilot project that was the launch of an annual Santa Fe International New Media Festival.

The Exhibit
The currents 2010 exhibit was housed in 17,000 sq. ft of El Museo Cultural's warehouse. The exhibition consisted of three elements – video installations, single channel video screenings and performance. The majority of the space was devoted to video installations. A separate screening room was used for the single channel video programs. Multi media performances were presented on the floor of the main gallery space.
Video Installations
Video installations incorporate video in sculptural or constructed environments to create an immersive or interactive experience, which invite the audience to inhabit the space or participate with elements of the installation.
Single Channel Video
Four small screening areas housed programs of single channel video from local, national and international artists, as well as work from local high school students. There were also several large projection areas as well as flat screen presentations of single channel work.
Performances
David Stout and Corey Metcalf returned to Santa Fe to introduce their latest work. In conjunction with Anne Farrells video installation, Victoria Garrison took the character of The Man With No Face, from Muarkami's book After Dark.
Parallel Studios
Parallel Studios has been producing, curating and designing small and large scale currents video exhibitions in Santa Fe since 2002. We utilize both public venues and gallery settings, always keeping the emphasis on an innovative, accessible approach to new media at the interface of art and science. Our exhibits have included local and international artists such as Steina, Woody Vasulka, Susanna Carlisle, David Stout and Corey Metcalf.
We have presented exhibitions at The Center for Contemporary Arts, Art Santa Fe (two years by invitation), Salon Margraff and Zane Bennett Gallery. We are gratified that our sponsors – El Museo Cultural, Zane Bennett Contemporary Art, SITE Santa Fe and many local artists and supporters of the arts stepped forward to support Parallel Studios in producing and promoting currents 2010.
Video for New Mexico
The growing interest in video as an art form has inspired us to lay the groundwork for an annual Santa Fe International New Media Festival. Parallel Studios saw currents 2010 as the pilot project. Your support of currents will further this vision and will help put Santa Fe and New Mexico on the map as a center of artistic innovation.
